What is Happening Next?
As we have indicated, the United Nations’ 8 May Cambodia Universal Periodic Review (UPR) session is not the end of the Khmer community’s international advocacy efforts aimed at producing “meaningful and effective” change in Cambodia. Be alert and keep your attention and energies ready and focused on the next advocacy opportunities that present themselves. The next two efforts are:
An Urgent Action Alert reviewing the results of the just concluded UPR process; and,
An “issue focused” virtual Khmercast seminar broadcast, focused on the all-important question that has presented itself, which is: Does the proposed strategy of “legitimizing” the hereditary appointment of Hun Manet by his father Hun Sen, and accommodating with the Hun Sen/Hun Manet regime’s long-standing human rights and democracy abuses make sense?
